Basic Body Tutorial by DerSketchie Basic Body Tutorial by DerSketchie
As per request I've done a simple tutorial on how the body comes together. It's chock-a-block full of tips on proportioning and alignment; two things that have greatly helped me refine my own drawing technique.

What, is that you? :) I was reading what you wrote under the 8 heads drawing. The thing is, I think artists of the human body should learn the ideal first. Until that 8 heads and those proportions are sered into the brain, variations of body are confusing. Trust me, I know. ALL these models on here, all these faces, all the variation. OY VEY.

I mean to say I haven't learned the basics even yet. Cartoons are SO much easier.

Haha, yes, that is me. All of my tutorials that use a female character are me, at least that way there's some consistency to them.

I agree with you though, cartoons are waaaaayyyy easier.

I've been told my cartoons are better than my people. You will have to decide that for yourself, if you want to look on my page. I've also been told the opposite, but mostly not.

But looking at this again, you are a good type to start with. :) Since that is you. :) Not too thin, not too thick, ideal enough to learn the basics and move on. I think I will definitely use this.

You draw a mean Peabody, that's for sure.

And yeah, my body seems to land fairly squarely in the middle of "average" (and I mean that as scientifically as possible) so I figured it'd be a good start.

Finally! Realistic proportions! Take that, drawings that suck in their gut!

Really though, fantastic work!

This is really well done. I recently tried explaining to my friend that the "rule of heads" isn't effective as a tool most of the time. Her characters were ending up out of proportion. She got into a bit of a huff about that. I think I'll show her this.
